Makaeel Sheikh is the Founder & CEO of NūrAI, where he is leading the development of cutting-edge multimodal AI that transforms voice into real-time communication intelligence. Before launching NūrAI, he worked as a scientist at Genentech, gaining deep experience in data-driven research, biological systems, and advanced innovation pipelines. His scientific background allows him to bridge human communication and machine intelligence with precision and clarity.
A graduate of University of Pennsylvania with a focus on Biology, Makaeel brings a rare combination of scientific rigor and entrepreneurial vision. His mission is to empower people through accessible AI—enabling clearer speech, smarter communication, and meaningful human-machine interaction for everyone.
Raheem Sheikh
Raheem Sheikh is a Ph.D. student at the University of Pennsylvania, where he explores the intersection of translational biology, artificial intelligence, and human health. With a strong academic foundation in Biological Sciences and Behavioral Neurobiology, his research spans drug development, cancer therapeutics, and the biological mechanisms that shape how diseases emerge and evolve.
As the Co-Founder of NūrAI, Raheem brings his scientific mindset into the world of AI innovation. He works on building intelligent systems that decode human communication, emotional signals, and real-time behavioral patterns. His mission is to merge rigorous science with advanced AI—ultimately creating tools that deepen our understanding of ourselves and enhance how humans interact, express, and connect.

Elizabeth Shriberg, PhD is a leading scientist in spoken language technology and human machine communication. Her work spans prosody, conversational dynamics, emotion and cognitive state sensing, and the development of user aware AI systems that foster more natural and human centered interaction. She has held senior roles at SRI International, Microsoft Research, and Amazon Alexa, and previously served as Chief Science Officer at Ellipsis Health where she led speech based mental health assessment.
As a Senior Advisor at Nūr, Elizabeth guides the scientific foundations of vocal signal interpretation, ML validation, market and product readiness, and the integration of human behavior research into real world AI systems. Her career includes more than three decades of contributions to machine learning, affective computing, and conversational AI, as well as over 300 publications and patents.
